Art Week Des Moines2020

In celebration of Art Week 2020 Jess Quinn, a local artist from Mainframe Studios, will be hosting a two day backyard art show featuring 20 paintings she created over 20 days during June 2020.

Quinn's botanical oil paintings were featured at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens during 2019 Art Week. Her art has also shown at the Iowa State Fair, Polk County Heritage Gallery and Ankeny Art Center.

To My Eye, a new collection of works inspired by the lyrics of Wilco, is making it's debut social-distance style to celebrate Art Week Des Moines!  
The prints will be on display in the storefront window next to Trixie's Salon throughout art week for safe viewing.

An All Yards Art Show about playing with #yardwork

For the 6th annual Art Week Des Moines, you are invited to participate in a city-wide art installation. Rainbows, thank you notes to postal workers and teddy bears in windows are visual ways our communities are reaching out to show support for each other. As we practice social distancing, we continue to find ways to be together, apart. Design your #yardwork installation with materials you have handy at home. Coordinate with your neighborhood on a theme, or surprise everyone with your own vision. You could even use your yard as a performance space.

With lots of yards participating, the Greater Des Moines area will be transformed into DSM Emerald City. Driving, walking and biking through neighborhoods will provide unexpected surprises from a safe, social distance. This project is initiated by local artists Rachel Buse and Christopher Chivetta. Both are sculptors interested in working in nature and use material and color to explore meaningful interactions with people.

DSM Emerald City will be promoted for viewing the week of Art Week Des Moines, June 19th-26th. Follow Art Week Des Moines on Facebook and Instagram. Use the hashtag #dsmemeraldcity and #artweekdsm2020 when posting on social media.
